The book for review is “This Is Awkward” by Sammy Rhodes. It falls in the genre of religion, Christian life and spiritual growth.

Sammy Rhodes is a campus minister with Reformed Fellowship at the University of South Carolina. From his life experiences this book came into being. He dives into a variety of topics that ranges from being awkward, parents, divorce and even to porn. With his humor and things that has happened to him as a kid to adult hood, we learn through him. Or even better we learn it is not just us who are going through these issues.

Scripture is sprinkled throughout the book but it is done just right. There is not too much that will either bog a book down or make a person want to stop reading. It is done in a way that it enhances the book.

Sammy doesn’t shy away from the tough topics that have surround us growing up. Topics that are hard to bring up in a conversation or even with our own spouse. The light heartiness of how God is there for us in the good time and bad makes this book really work for me.

It was nice to see a book that was labeled Christian life and spiritual growth actually be about those topics. I have picked up a few books with these genres and they only hinted or touched a bit on it.

I did enjoy this book. It taught me things that I needed to hear at just the right time in my life. The pacing is slow in some spots and awesome in others. But overall it is a quick read. And also you might want to have a highlighter with you as some phrases or sections you might want to go back to.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
