The book for review is “The Returned” by Jason Mott. This book has been made into a television series named “Resurrection.”
How would you feel if you found out your eight year old son, who has died many years ago, show up out of no where on your door step? Meet Harold and Lucille Hargrave, of North Carolina, parents to Jacob who is now a newly returned. But he is not the first. He is one of many that have been returning from the dead wandering, while trying to make sense of who they are, what they are and where their family might be.
Unwilling to believe this is his son, Harold holds back not wanting to love this young boy. Lucille on the hand is on board with this second chance of life. She doesn’t understand it but it doesn’t matter. The FBI agent in charge, Bellamy, is tasked to figure out what is going on.
However not everyone is opening their arm and hearts to the newly arrived. Some wants to cage them up while others wants to remove them permanently. Even if it means attacking the families of those they known their whole lives to get what they want.
I did enjoy the book, though I wish I had read it prior to the series on TV. The characters one could relate to as they battled with the various emotions from this event. Who knows how I would have reacted. I did wish we had been told why or how they did return. That was never spelled out for us. It left me wanting more. But a quick read and the pages flew for me. A good read.
