“Running For My Life”

The book up for review is “ Running For My Life” by Lopez Lomong

The main character in this book is Lopez Lomong. One of the many athletes who represents the US in the Olympics.  Lopez is one of the “ lost boys” of Sudan. Raised in this region that has been plagued by war, famine and poverty our young man lives on hope and the love of his family. While in America we are blessed with so much, it is not the case for Lopez. Ripped from his family arms as they make their way to church by rebels starts off the book which clutches at one’s heart. Soon it is discovered that they were kidnapped to be soldiers. Being scrawny and young he is often left behind in the hut while the stronger boys go out to train. Escaping with the help of his three angels Lopez makes it to a refuge camp and later on to America.

This is a powerful story of courage, determination, and a love for God. Also a new found love for a country that has adopted him as one of their own.  Pick up this book for a truly motivational read that will make you sad, mad, glad and tear up and then all over again.
