“A Shot Of Faith To The Head”

The book for review is “A Shot Of Faith To The Head” by Mitch Stokes, PhD

This book is divided into three sections. The first being “ Belief In God Is Irrational”. It breaks it up into those who say there is not enough evidence to believe in God. Of course with books of this topic one can almost always expect Darwin to be discussed as a counter to people who believe. This section gets into the history of those who believe versus the groups who do not. It is very detailed and is not an easy read. If this is your thing you will love it. It slowed me down personally. I wanted to get to the juice of the matter and while I understand the reason for the back history it was dreary reading. Near the end of this session there were chapters dedicated to “ The Art Of Self-Defense”. A way for believers to make a stand of sorts.

Part two of the book was entitled “Science Has Shown There’s No God”. Again with a topic like this science tends to be discussed as well. By this time I was thoroughly bored. The author made some great points but this book is not easy to read and is slow going.

Part three went into “Evil And Suffering Show There’s No God”.

My take on this book was mixed. But that is primarily through the history and background that was written to give the readers a view of where this subject has been. There were some gems that fortified one’s belief in God.

My favorite sentence in the entire book was this:

Don’t tell me to questions authority and then get upset when I question your authority.”

This book was received in exchange for two honest reviews.

I have really enjoyed your reviews of books especially the one you did on ‘A shot of faith to the head’. Your careful discernment and absorbtion into the book really shows not only how much you like to read but that you read for understanding. I am writing because I just published a book and would love to get your review of it (no matter what you end up thinking of it!). It would help me not only in exposure but I really appreciate a review from someone who will give their attention to it.

The book is actually only a part of a large project called ‘Days With Jesus’. It combines the book, which walks the reader through the first half of the Gospel of John, with numerous videos shot on-location in Israel hosted on the website where a person can see where that particular Day took place. I call the book a ‘Docuvotional’ as I attempt to take the reader through the life of Jesus as told to us by His disciple John, then help the reader to try and apply the teachings in a devotional manner.

I can send you the ebook if you would like to read it unless you would prefer a different format. Feel no rush but if you would like to do a write-up on it I would be grateful. Please just shoot me an email if it interests you to do a review so I can be on the lookout for it.

    Thanks for your consideration,
