“Room” by Emma Donoghue

The book for review is “Room” by Emma Donoghue.

This was a page turner. It is about a young woman of 19 who gets abducted and placed in a shed in her abductors’ back yard. During this time of capture she conceived a son by the name of Jack. The story picks up when he turns 5 years old. All this young boy knows is this small space that he was born into. While to Jack this is his whole world, Ma knows what it is like on the outside. The man provides for them by supplying the basic needs. The story is told in Jack’s voice of which the author does an amazing job. While he is only 5 and rather innocent in many ways, Jack shows a pension for being creative and intelligent. The mother and son soon plan an escape to break free from the room. This is when Jack realizes that outside is real and not just a show on the TV set.

While the content is not for the weak at heart, it will tug at your heart strings. I thoroughly enjoyed how this book was written.
